types of support

When do you need the support?

Living with Pet Bereavement offers support Pre, During or Post the death of a companion animal. It is never too early to reach out for support pre-euthanasia, we can accompany you during euthanasia and we will be there for you post euthanasia or death.

Types of Support

Pre euthanasia suppport

post euthanasia/death support

during euthanasia support

Experience has taught us that pet owners who reach out for support before the loss of their pet tend to cope far better after the pet has died knowing they did everything they could for their pet and did right by their pet to the very end. Addressing anticipatory grief, fears or concerns regarding euthanasia and aftercare, as well as discussing plans and reassuring pet carers about their fears, significantly reduces the need for them to seek counselling afterwards.

Some of the more common questions or statements you will have to address before the loss of a pet are as follows:

  • When will I know the time is right?
  • Preparing for Euthanasia
  • Euthanasia process
  • Aftercare options

We can accompany clients to euthanasia appointments to provide much needed moral and emotional support. Those who live alone or have no one to go with them when the time comes or for those afraid of what lies ahead. We have accompanied many clients during the euthanasia appointments providing them much-needed reassurance and comfort. Geographically, it may not be possible for us to attend, however if you would like, we can try to arrange for another pet bereavement specialist to attend. This service does involve a fee to cover travel expenses.

Please note that whilst our specialists can accompany you to the vets or be present at your home during the euthanasia appointment, they will not comment or interfere with any aspect of the procedure, they are simply there to provide moral support and make the tea.

Most pet owners who contact us after the loss of their pets are usually looking for emotional support. However, in some cases, if you are looking for advice on more practical activities, we can help with that too.

These are common questions and statements after the loss of a pet:

  • I'm struggling to cope
  • I feel so guilty
  • Why could I not close my dog’s eyes?
  • My dog was afraid when he died!
  • How will I know if it’s only my pet’s ashes?
  • My other pet isn’t coping well.
  • Where can I scatter my pet’s ashes?
  • I want to complain about my vet.
